What news stories weren't covered, or which interviews could have gone differently if they hadn't been delivered by Matt Lauer?

That's just one of many questions that arise after the anchor of NBC's "Today" was fired by the network for multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.

"He had a ton of control over what stories were being told and the way they were being told to an audience of millions," Emma Gray, the executive Women's Editor at HuffPost, told Salon's Alyona Minkovski on "Salon Talks." Since Lauer's departure, people have looked at his comments towards female guests and his interview with Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election cycle in a different light. Another report claims he killed stories about infidelity from the "TODAY" lineup.

Another aspect of the departures of major media stars like Matt Lauer and Charlie Rose due to reports of sexual misconduct is that their female colleagues had to deliver the news to the country. "Women are the ones who are left to kind of soothe the nation when these male figures fall and that's not by accident," Gray said.
