Jim Gaffigan talks to Salon about bringing his commentary on politics and social issues into his stand-up act over the years and for his Prime Video special "Dark Pale." Gaffigan says he does so tactfully because his audience is wide and encompasses Americans with differing political views. "They don't necessarily have to agree with everything as long as I'm not preachy," he said. The comedian also reflects on the idea of being "clean." While Gaffigan now makes jokes about more serious topics, he says to some he is still known as the "guy who makes jokes about food." "You don't have control over what people will take away or what people will assign to you," Gaffigan said. "I kind of go with the flow."
