Actor Billy Crudup needs to have an "intuitive in" with a character in order to take the part. For Jack in "Hello, Tomorrow!" and Cory Ellison in "The Morning Show," Crudup is interested in their hopeful outlooks, he shared with Salon. "Hello Tomorrow!" exists in a retro future with robots and timeshares on the moon, but Crudup says he drew a lot of inspiration from home. "Jack reminded me so much of my father and my father's sense of optimism," Crudup said.
Plus, Crudup says Cory Ellison is neither a hero nor a villain on "The Morning Show." "He is somebody who has been on the winning side for a very long time in his life, and finally has to meet some of the challenges of failure."
