Ralph Macchio talks to Salon about his book, "Waxing On: The Karate Kid and Me," and playing the same iconic character decades later in Netflix's "Cobra Kai." With five seasons of "The Karate Kid" spinoff and his new memoir under his belt, Macchio shares his perspective on the changing interpretations of the original film, looking at old characters from new angles, and celebrating beloved cast members, like Mr. Miyagi, played by actor Pat Morita. As for his youthful looks, Macchio joked, "I'm a bit of a freak of nature, but a little hair dye does help."
