Jo Koy did not see much Filipino representation on TV growing up, but he says he found a familiarity and comfort in watching Black comedians. "I would gravitate towards Black comedy because I always felt like when they talked about their families it was closer to my family," he told Salon's D. Watkins. Now, Koy says that his favorite part of stand-up is meeting fans of all ethnicities who tell him they see their families represented in his comedy.
