On "Salon Talks," Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz comments on why there is growing discontent around stagnant wages in America. In his latest book, "People, Power, and Profits: Progressive Capitalism for an Age of Discontent," the former chief economist of the World Bank and chairman of Clinton's Council of Economic Advisors unpacks Trump's economic policies, the shortcomings of American-style capitalism, and what we should do moving forward.
"It's very natural for people to say the economy is rigged and our political system is rigged. And to be almost angry that Donald Trump gets elected on a platform of draining the swamp and then what do you see? The swamp has never been murkier!" Stiglitz said to SalonTV's Dean Obeidallah.
In the video above, Stiglitz offers his take on what can be done to restore faith and fix the system. Watch the full episode to hear more from Stiglitz on why some 2020 Democrats are pushing for socialist-inspired (but not in the traditional sense) policies that help Americans in a range of areas from health care to education.
SalonTV host Dean Obeidallah is also the host of the daily national SiriusXM radio program, "The Dean Obeidallah Show" on the network's progressive political channel. Follow him on Twitter and Facebook.
